watch out for the guitar build quality

3.0 / 5.0

This is by all means a great game. There are a two things, however, to watch out for:

1) early versions of the game were released with only mono sound. This won't make any difference to those who use their TV only for sound but if you have a surround sound system hooked up to your console, it means that you will only get sound from your center channel. This is a significant detraction from the game. Luckily, Activision is starting a disc repalcement program where you can send your disc in for one with a fixed dolby capability. The unfortunate thing is that you have to ship your game off and wait for the new one to arrive which means you can't play for a while while it's en route.

2) the build quality on these guitars is not the greatest. I have used three different les paul guitars and they all varied in terms of quality. One worked fine throughout, one had a whammy bar that flopped around loosely right out of the box, and the last one had a defective strum bar mechanism. When I'd strum down, the force of the bar returning to position caused another strum in the opposite direction. This meant that every strum would result in an error in your playing in game songs. According to my local game shop, this is a common problem with these guitars and they get a lot of warranty returns for this issue.

Otherwise, this game is a ton of fun and about the closest you can get to the feel of playing in a real band. ROCK ON!

Great Game -- Terrible Price

5.0 / 5.0

OK, it is a great game, but come on! I can't believe they are charging for a game!! "9 used & new available from CDN$ 178.99" The Wii system itself isn't much more than that! Bring the price down to $50.

Back To Rock You Like A Hurricane

5.0 / 5.0

After three editions of Guitar Hero,I,II and Encore:Rock The 80s,Guitar Hero III is released on October 28th 2007 much to the delight of fans of the serie. What makes Guitar Hero so different and succesfull you ask, well the fact that it plays on a guitar peripherial for one and that it rocks!Packed with great rocking tunes Guitar Hero is back once again but for the first time on the Wii with new features such as a wireless guitar, all new boss battles and you can play as real guitarist such as Slash. Its just as good as the other edition if not better and with the new features you will rock for months to come!

Its no secret,Guitar Hero III uses the same classic formula that made the previous titles of the serie so succesfull with a combinasion of new features. The wireless guitar is a very nice addition so now you don't have to worry about your console and you can run around, jump like crazy like rock bands do.Yet for those who already own a guitar from one of the previous GH titles then its different,if yoyu don't feel like you NEED a wireless guitar then you might just want to buy GH III without the guitar, yet a wireless guitar is more fun.I also like the fact that the guitar included with GH III is the Gibson Les Paul one of my fav guitars,it is also used by several musicians,Yet for the PS2 version they have decided to use the Kramer Pacer...

That said, lets go to the gameplay. Its very much what was in the other GH titles with the view being mostly on you and the buttons have remained the same with the different colors on the guitar and you have to match the colors on the screen so that you play the notes to make the music. Its a simple idea but how fun and it really makes you feel like a rock star and takes you in the action. Its harder than it seems...There are a total of 42 songs in the game. Also many classic characters such as Izzy Sparks are back while some have been left off and others came in.

They paid closer attention to the background, animations and crowd then before attempting to make it even a better experience than before.Because of that, the fret buttons screen has been a bit reduced not that it affects the game SO much, its just something i noted. Also the loadings are longer than in previous game because of the gameplay changes, while that might be frustrating its worth it to play this great game.It ain't so bad i saw games that much longer waiting before and they weren't even worth it!

The boss battles are wicked and are one of the new features to the game. Its certainly cool and different tought it can be tought depending on how good you are and your previous Guitar Hero experiences.I don't want to tell too much about it to spoil the experience but its quite original and a great new addition to the serie, yet some hardcore GH players have some complaints that its a tad too easy. Its so-so,everyone has different oipinions but certainly add difficulty to the game in my opinion and it can be frustrating.

The difficulty has gotten considerably tougher so that its a good challenge both for experienced and inexperienced players. There are plenty of unlockables like new Guitars,Outfits,Characters and songs as the other GH releases wich is good.Once again four levels of difficulty to choose from:Easy,Medium,Hard and Very Hard, depnding on how good you are you might want to start by the beggening as GH is never easy for a newbie(i once was and saw probably more than 15 newbies struggle with it).Yet it takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it you'll love it.

Multiplayer is better than ever!If they did something right, its certainly the multiplayer as its best co-op of the serie so far. There are many goals to achieve and plenty of things to do from the classic battle mode and co-op but now multiplayer in GH III lets you play career co-op!Now how cool is that?Very Cool! For some its a dream come true especially for me since i love playing GH with friends.

Here is the career playlist:

If you like rocking tunes such as the Scorpions's "Rock You Like A Hurricane" wich i absolutly love and wished for quite some while it would be on a GH someday,Guns'N'Roses's "Welcome To The Jungle" or rock,metal,trash-metal or anything heavy then this is highly recommended. The songlist is very good once again with great songs with a few fillers, also GH is nice to introduce you to some new bands or bands you never heard before. If you wish to live the Rock'n'Roll dream this is as close as it gets!

As someone who has played an actual real guitar for a while; this game was pretty easy to catch onto right out of the box without any tutorials. Expert mode however is ridiculously fast and difficult with some of the faster songs and prone to booing. I'm hoping they will have more songs to add on to so they can keep up with MTV's ROCK BAND. Overall a very fun game to play alone or with friends; and it was featured in Gossip Girl, go figure.
