ONE OF THE BEST YOU'LL PLAY TODAY

5.0 / 5.0

They control and a lot of the gameplay style has changed but it's still awesome. A change is good. Once you pop this game in, you won't be able to turn it off. The Gamecube controller is awesome for this game, by the way. Everything just clicks. It's cool to see that Capcom gave the Cube a shot at RE. It worked prefectly. An instant classic. The list goes on. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Definately the Game of the Year

4.0 / 5.0

Resident Evil 4 is, by far, my absolute favorite game for any console. It was my first time playing any of the Resident Evil series, and I was instantly hooked. I've finished the game 4 times now, and since I had only rented it and borrowed it from friends I find myself wanting to buy it even after having played it so often.

The story in the game is very interesting, although nothing compared to some of the other Resident Evil games. It keeps you wondering what's going to happen next and very well conserves the "What kind of half-insane hellhole is this?" element that distinctly caracterises the Resident Evil series. A change from the rest of the series, RE4 is an action-based survival horror instead of a puzzle game like all the others.

Although the gameplay is different from most shooters, going around shooting people is still the most important part of the game. The puzzles are mindlessly easy. You'll solve most of them without even thinking. Basically, it's an action game with a Resident Evil title on it. Because of these brainless puzzles I've lowered the grade to four, but if you're only interested in the shooting (like me), you can change that grade to five stars.

Even after you finish the game, which will take a solid 5-10 hours (not much, but replayability is fun and encouraged to acquire the best items), you get a mode called The Mercenaries where you are placed in a chosen location using any of the five offered characters (four of which you must unlock) and put against a constant stream of foes, trying to survive while earning as many points as possible.

Instead of boring your friends with the long-winded puzzle gameplay like the other Resident Evils, RE4 is a blast to play with friends even though it's only single-player. There is nothing more entertaining than to watch your friend turn white at the sight of a chainsaw-wielding maniac running towards him at full speed.

Definately a must-have (or at least must-try) for any gamer who can handle the extreme blood and gore (vivid decapitations are just about as common as reloading your weapon in this game). An instant classic.

4 stars, with an asterisk

4.0 / 5.0

Yes, this game is a lot of gory fun. The zombies -- er, slow-walking, groaning, limping, stumbling, non-zombies -- are well animated and are a joy to behold/obliterate. Environments are beautiful and creepy, with an excellent mapping system to help stay on course. The action sequences are alot of fun and are even occasionaly frightening, or at least eerie.

Sound is great too. The stereo sound does a great job to immerse the player. Although I couldn't take advantage of surround with my setup, I can only imagine it being even better.

I didn't even get bored with the game. For comparison I never bothered to finish Doom 3.

So, what is holding Resident Evil 4 from a 5 star rating? Voice-acting and writing. Ugh! There's nothing more immersion breaking in a horror game than when you find yourself cringing at the dialog, wincing at the "plot revelations" and trying not to laugh when your arch enemies utter even a single word.

Supposedly the RE series has always had a "campy"/ "B-movie" appeal. From what I saw years ago, and again now, RE seems to be written and performed without any awareness of this ridiculousness. Consider the Evil Dead movies, or Shaun of the Dead. This is where comedy meets horror and works well. RE fails miserably in this respect, if indeed, that is what it is trying for at all. And if RE's dialog/plot is meant to be taken seriously, to keep the player in terror, then it is an even worse failure. If I were to judge games and movies on the same scale, RE4 would get a 2/5.

But thankfully the main action keeps you interested. The minigames and unlockables can be alot of fun too once you've been through the game.

All in all it is a great game that could have been really great with better acting and writing. Still easy to recommend for the actual gameplay and extra bits.

4/5

Great finish to the series?

5.0 / 5.0

First off the whole series of RE is great even though there are mixed feelings concerning them. I for one have the entire series and I haven't even finished playing RE0 yet. I keep playing other games so I don't always stick with the games. But enough of talking about the other games of RE. I'm here to tell you that if you want to be scared out of your mind, turn off the lights, turn up your volume and listen to everything around you and you will feel like you are actually there.

The first scene had me hooked and wanting more so that can tell you that this game will be one of the greatest in NGC history. The graphics are so realistic you think that the characters are really real. Also it is very hard to put down the controller even for a minute to use the facilities ;-) The use again with two people to control at times is just as good as RE0. You will laugh at somethings and others will leave you so frustrated that you want to bash your head against the wall to clear your head. I only made it a little ways with the game but I'm not that far. I will have to start the series over again so I can get a better feel for them.

The sound is awesome. There is very little for me to tell you about it other than play it to find out.

Gameplay is addicting and difficult to let go leaving you wanting more even when you aren't playing it.

arcade style resident evil

3.0 / 5.0

this is a decent game but it's like playing an arcade style of resident evil. The graphics are second to none and it does have some cool game play but it's not a typical resident evil game, basically just kill everything that moves, not much thinking involved. This game will keep u entertained for a few hours ,but killing everything gets boring fast, save your money and rent it first.

Essentially, Quake Live is a free version of what many still consider to be the purest multiplayer experience on any gaming platform, slotted neatly into a browser window. Why? Because it turns the now muddled Quake 3 Arena into a streamlined, idiot-proof game. New Microsoft Ad - The Commercial About Nothing

“Are they going to make our computers moist and chewey like cake …?” What? Have you seen the new Microsoft Vista ad with Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates? If not, you can see it below. But, really, Bill and Jerry shopping for shoes, Bill flashing his “platinum” Shoe Circus Clown Club card and adjusting his underwear to signal Jerry? I think they took the “about nothing” Seinfeld concept a bit far this time. And it’s not nothing for Jerry. It sounds like he stands to make around $10 million (h
