AWESOME GAME

I found this game to be incredibly difficult at the beginning (since i have not yet aquired a network adapter to play online), and quite frankly, so did my friend, who hated it (it was his game). i got addicted to the difficulty of it, and i eventually managed to break through the one mission i had difficulty with. My friend also quickly became addicted when he copied my tactics and succeeded too. I have found this game to be incredible from that point on, whereas it was only fun at the beginning. the graphics are very good, there are a few exceptions, but with gameplay like this, who cares?
the weapon and armor creation is integral in the fun-ness of the game (i know thats not a word, but thats the only way i can describe it and you get my point). The weapon trees are absolutely massive, starting with one weapon you can create or buy, and simply evolving from there. there are 5 classes of weapons (sword, dual swords, great sword, spear, and hammer). each one has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages, and quite frankly, capcom did not do a very good job in balancing the abilities of each (you'll understand this if you buy the game, which you should). this is one of the few games wehre money is not everything, in fact money is only a very small part, if an integral one, so if your somebody who always focuses on getting rich, you might have a difficult time until you realize you have to harvest supplies too, and the contract money for the missions isn't the only way to make money and certainly isn't the best. the weapons comboing isn't very complicated, even for the dual swords, but quite frankly, this game is not soul calibur 3, and it was never meant to be. In the beginning, you learn everything you need to know for a long while, and you recieve only a few further updates later on. Now, i have no idea about online play, but the storyline offline isn't particularly good, which i don't mind, since im not that kind of person unless i think it really matters to the overall gameplay (it doesn't, in this case). one of the things i like about this game is that you can do any missiona s many times as you want, and you can produce several powerful weapons from each weapons tree, as there are several deviations from the main branch, all of them upgradeable, so you can end up with several unique weapons with different appearances and unique abilities, mostly with similar amounts of damage. the larger enemies (wyverns) will take damage based on location, and each one of them is uniquely armored. Some have weak heads, others its their wings, or legs, or tails, or underbellies. Weapons have a variable damage based on its sharpness, which comes in four levels, and lowers as it is used, and lowers faster if it bounces off an armored part of an enemy. there are 4 colors on the sharpness meter to indicate how long the weapon stays at the represented level of sharpness. Green is the sharpest, and will only bounce on the strongest of armor (most weapons don't get this level of sharpness, so this is certainly a deciding factor for choosing how to upgrade), yellow, which is basically normal, it bounces off the armored parts of the earlier wyverns, and nothing else, orange, which is below normal, and it bounces more often and against lesser monsters, and red, which basically means that you might as well be hitting the monster with a stick for all the times your weapon bounces. There are whetstones you can buy, or mine, or are supplied with at the beginning of missions. overall this is an incredible game, and well worth the 20$(i did, because my friend is addicted now and took it back after loaning it to me), since i have well over 50 hours of gameplay in it, and i still have not done everything and i still have difficult battles with even the lesser wyverns (its very interesting that way isn't it. im near the end of the game, and i still have fun, and trouble, killing some of the wyverns)
Addictively Fun!

First off, don't buy this game if you can't play it online. because offline the game is insanely difficult and boring.
But for those of you who are lucky enough to have a network adapter (or a slim PS2), then go ahead and purchase it. This game is not for everyone though, and in my eyes its an rpg at heart. If rpgs are your thing though, and you have online access, do yourself a favor and buy this now. The online play is much easier and more rewarding, you get to go on quests with up to 3 other players (4 total) which lowers the difficulty a lot.
Battles seem very epic with the battle music and sheer amount of hits it takes to take down a (Lets say;) Dragon, it really feels like your hunting this creature.
But, there are some control issues, like the camera. Looking behind you in a fight is impossible. The actual weapon handling isn't that bad once you get used to it, but it is fairly sluggish.
Another thing to point out is that this is not a pick me up and play game. Which is why I think it's more of an rpg than action. You will spend the first hour just trying to get enough money to purchase some armor and a decent sword. Which must then be upgraded several times before being any good.
The online can help this problem if you get in with some higher level players who can beat the quest by themselves. You can let them do the quest and earn you money at the same time. As mentioned above, the way you get better in this game is through countless upgrades to weapons and creating new armor. Your character him/her self has no skills, stats, or anything else like that, this all comes from your weapons and armor.
The graphics are beautifull, the character models, armor and swords look amazing with an incredible amount of detail put into them making each one completely unique. Monters look pretty good too, just not as good as the player. There is some minor collisions, but nothing to terrible to ruin the game.
The sound is average, not much in game dialogue, but plenty of sword sounds and monster roars, and other things like that. The music is ok, it's nothing like Final Fantasy or any other SQUARE/ENIX quality, but it does get the job done.
The most popular feature is the online play, everything is set up great. You'll enter one of three lands, then an area, then a town. While in town you can shop for gear and meet up to three other players to go on a quest with you. There's no headset support, but there is keyboard support which works fine (USB of course). I strongly suggest getting one if you even think your going to play online.
Monster Hunter is a highly addictive rare game to get right now, and once you do get into it... say good bye to your social life.
My buddies at work say this is the best game ever, its not perfect, but it does leave room for improvements in the sequel (If we do get a sequel), its well worth the 4 to 6 weeks of waiting for this game after ordering it, Prepare to be addicted!
Don't know,Don't Care

Even if you want a MMORPG of that type, buy this game!
If your not sure go to capcom.com/monster to chek it out! I don't have it but I wanna buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Could be outstanding

monster hunter, as stupid as the name sounds, looks quite impressive. The plots simple-your a hunter trying to make a living by hunting numerous monsters. What makes it so interesting is the gameplay mechanics and the online capabilities. There can be up to four people at once, each hunting for a certain monster. The game looks as if it will focus on cooperative strategy over all out combat. You'll have to work with your team in order to achieve victory and defeat the monster. Setting traps and using tools are what you'll probably have to focus on. In a trailer i saw, a lone hunter was being chased by a giant dragon-like creature. He lured the monster into a snare, and the others suddenly dropped in and began to hack away at the entangled creature. Very impressive. The game also looks beautiful. Lush jungle areas, barren deserts, and swampy forests were filled with a great amount of detail. Overall, the game looks great, and i hope to see it on dial-up when it comes out.
this game looks awesome

the movies are not always the best way to tell if a game is going to be good, but I have a feeling from watching this game it will be very close. the graphics do not look overkill, but the gameplay I have seen more than makes up for it. the customization looks very expansive, and the armor looks like you would earn it from killing the monsters, or from what i can tell, are mostly going to be huge dragons. this game is definately first on my wish list.
