Description
When Luigi's Mansion was first announced, many assumed it would follow in the legendary footsteps of Super Mario World and Super Mario 64. The game doesn't approach the epic scale of either of those titles, but once you get used to its smaller scale, the various charms of this game do become obvious.
The game involves you, as Mario's brother Luigi, trying to exorcise a haunted mansion of ghosts by sucking them into a vacuum cleaner. It sounds easier than the previous cinematic attempts by the Ghostbusters and the Catholic Church, but it's not. The complications and cleverness of the game manifest in the use of light and shadow. Many ghosts cannot be seen unless you reveal their shadows or manipulate the objects in a room to make them appear. These imaginative--but never frustrating--puzzles add to the otherwise simplistic process of catching the smaller ghosts by freezing them with a beam of light and sucking them up with your Hoover backpack.
It's only a minor classic, but Luigi's Mansion does show off some off the GameCube's graphic effects and provides a game the whole family can enjoy. If only it were a bit longer. --David Jenkins.

Customer Reviews
Not for adults

This game is definitely intended for very young players. While it is pretty enough, and there are some interesting puzzles, the basic gameplay is easily learned, and is constantly repeated. I lost interest after about 20 minutes of repeating the same task over and over.
I think that it would be great for players 4-9.
not as easy as you would think

first off let me explain that i am writing this review from the viewpoint of an older yet beginner gamer. The game in itself is well done visual effects and storyline are great. The problem i have with this title is that i found it difficult to catch ghosts at first so i asked a couple people with more experience than me to try it and they also had a hard time with it.So basically im writing this to let people like myself (HOPEFULLY IM NOT ALONE)to beware before they buy this game thinking that its easy,im sure once you get the hang of it it must be great but it takes time and (for me anyway) its very frustating at times. In closing i just want people (of my level of play) to try other simpler titles before they buy this one and think like i did that it was easy cause of the packaging. This holds true for a lot of game cube games that seem easy but that are not so buyer beware.thank you for reading and i hope that this was helpful to you.
Good Starter Game

This was the first game I played when I got my GameCube. It was a fun game that keeps you interested enough to finish it. Not a very long game but great game to begin with. Not too hard for kids, not too easy for adults.
