Description
Just in case you didn't know, the Tony Hawk series is the best skateboarding sim ever--and now, with the release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, it's even more so. As many young hipsters are aware, skateboarding is taken far more seriously nowadays than any child of the '70s could ever have imagined it would be, with legions of baggily trousered youth able to refer to moves such as a "bluntside" or an "overcrook" with perfectly straight faces. Indeed, the list of silly names for ridiculously dangerous stunts has been increased for this latest sequel, and you can now "skitch" (hold on to the back of a moving car) and grind through traffic. Such minor additions aside, though, the big new change is career mode, which has specific goals and milestones for all the different skaters, adding to replayability.
Curiously, the graphics are still not particularly good, with the same slightly muddy, undefined look that the developers presumably think is all part of the fun. Although they have thankfully realized that having time limits for the levels was unnecessary so that now, except for a few specific missions, you have all the time in the world to graze your knees and cave in your skull. This one looks, as the kids on the street say, sick. --David Jenkins

It'z KooL!!

Tony hawk iz a kool and exiting game. It has one of the best 2 player mode i've ever seen, cause there is so many thingz u can do.But the Creer mode is very challenging, u have to be a pro just to get past the 1rst level at the college. But whaen u get 2 the next level it's worth the wait. Also u can create ur own park, buy boards , grip tape wheels ,secret skaters, and even parks.U can also can also go to parks that are alredy made and they are TIGHT!!!!
Well that's it i reccomend this game if u have 2 share ur system wit a brother. Because 2player mode is awesome. or just play by yourself.
Good, but not the best of the series

I'm one of those rare people who get every action-trick sports games, granted some I wait on, and others I will get day of release, and well I waited on THPS4 and glad I did.
First off the game went under major reconstructive surgery for this incarnation, pretty much throwing away the 2:00 clock. I have serious problems with that, it's what made THPS, trying to do the goals within the time frame. Also out is the tape system, and again I'm seriously upset, just like I was for the arrival of THPS2.
The gameplay is THPS without a question. Its a little dulled down from the sharpness of THPS3, but gives a little more realism to the game, but if I wanted that, I'd go out and pick up the deck and go skating. Many of the challenges are excrutiatingly tedious. Actually about 90% of them are tedious, I like the races, and the traditional collect SKATE of find 5 whatevers in 2 minutes, but then the competitions don't have the skate park feel to them. The levels are big, but fairly unimaginative (Chicago from Mat Hoffman 2....I won't say more)
If you're looking for a THPS game, I would go 3 and maybe even 2x before 4, but if you're looking for new levels and don't have 4, pick it up now that it is at a platnium price, and be glad you didn't spend twice as much on it.
Each Tony Hawk game keeps just getting better and better...

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is the best in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series so far.The games just keep getting better and better! This game is very addictive and full of depth. The career mode is much different and improved from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3,with much more stuff to do.There is no more time limit. You have to talk to pedestrians throughout the level and they give you a goal to do.The goals get more and more challenging throughout the whole game. This is also by far the most challenging game in the series yet!The graphics are pretty good too(athough nothing shocking). The levels are very large and theres a great soundtrack featuring artists like the Offspring,N.W.A,The Cult,Gang Starr, and over 30 other aritsts.Theres also a custom soundtrack option too so you can use your own soundtrack. This game controls perfectly too with the Controller S.There are no exclusive Xbox features though, except for the obvious things like improved graphics and custom soundtracks.Plus, theres not even Xbox Live online play! But what is here is very fun and addictive and will keep you entertained for a long time.
Keeps getting better

Just when you thought that they couldn't possibly make a new Tony Hawk that provided original gameplay, Activision came out with this awesome game. The best addition to this installment has to be the way that they revamped how you achieve objectives. In previous versions, you had to keep retrying the level, suffering through annoying load times just so you can retry the objectives. Now, there is no timelimit on the levels, and you activate objectives by talking to people on the board. Fail the objective? No problem. Hit start and select "retry objective" from the menu.
Other than that, the graphics have improved, yet again, and the replay value is even higher than it was before. Can life get better? I thought it couldn't, but Activision proved me wrong!
