Description
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is one of the best games ever made. Four Swords is a cool new multiplayer game. Together they make the bargain of the century.
Despite the all-encompassing excellence of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, many fans consider A Link to the Past to be the best Zelda game ever. Originally released in 1991 for the SNES, this, despite a few sound effect additions and the curious dumbing down of a couple of puzzles and snippets of dialogue, is a perfect conversion of that game.
Anyone who hasn't played this before will be surprised at just how similar it is to the newer Zelda games. It's got nearly all the same weapons and items, and the puzzles and gameplay are just as complex and interesting. In fact, lesser games are stilling ripping off the inspired fiendishness of the light/dark world and the various head-scratching puzzles it creates. Of course the graphics are rubbish--they were pretty lame even back in 1991--but for once that really doesn't matter.
Clearly not wanting to be accused of releasing another "lazy" port, Nintendo have included a brand new multiplayer mode in the form of Four Swords. Entirely separate from the single-player adventure, it allows you and up to three friends to battle through one of three smallish dungeons cooperating on puzzles and mercilessly stealing each other's treasures. Although short-lived it's great fun and the perfect accompaniment to the magnificence of A Link to the Past. --David Jenkins

Great classic; sound is a bit off though

An excellent rendition of a classic must-play game. My only complaint is that the sound is not very good on this port. While the GBA has always had limited sound capabilities, this game in particular has very poor sound compared to the SNES original (from 1992!).
Otherwise the game is a perfect port and great for getting that quick Zelda fix. Go back and play this once you're done with The Minish Cap ;)
Totaly Awsome I Give It 5 Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have played about 4 Zelda games altogether, and this was the best ever!!! I haven't even played the multiplayer Four Swords adventure yet, and I give it 5 stars already!
Plot: The plot doesn't really have any real effect on the game itself, though there are some hidden twists. +1
Graphics: Not the best I've ever seen, but works fine for the gameplay. +1.5
Gameplay: I've yet to see better. There are amazingly vast series of beasties, and each one is unique. Every item you get is usefull, the dungeons are fun, every boss is great, hard to beat but not too hard. I love it. +3
Sound: The only thing I didn't love.. The sounds don't always suit the situition, and it's like the whole games music is
balanced on a few songs that keep being recycled. -1
Replay Value: O.K., I guess. +.5
All in all, if you want a good game to play for a while, then I suggest you try Legend of Zelda Games(this one in particular).
GO, ZELDA!WAHOO!
great game, buy it!

this is a great game. i got it last year as a trade for harry potter 1 at gamestop. it was a horribly great game! i beat the game, but i couldnt have done without a walkthrough. seriously, this is a great game, but the puzzles are extremely hard. (...) oh yeah. THIS IS A GREAT GAME! BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally Awesome

This game (like the SNES version) rocks. It has got to be one of the best ever made. Its good and long like a video game should be. Not for the faint hearted, it's a game (unlike windwaker)that will push your gaming abilities to the limit. (i'm not kidding this game is haaard) The graphics are just fine for this kind of game (also unlike windwaker[I hated that cell-shading crap])and the music is great(for a videogame). You definatly should buy this one.
(This review only applies to the singal player game. I never even played the multiplayer game, but a game this good can stand on its own)
Buy it secondhand on internet - first hand it is 2 expensive

anno 2004, this game is depressingly ugly to look at, so ugly that it hinders my gameplay experience. the ratings for THIS zelda are far too high and imo only based on nostalgia. I have played (u)moria for hundreds of hours, so i'm not the type that sees graphics as the most important aspect, but come on, zelda, no. link moves waaay too slow, the selection system is unintelligible. it may be that is was among the first rpg's but that does not mean it is one of the best! The story may be great but playability is too low to grab me at once (in contrast to phantasy star, which is really far better and about the same age).
my advice : borrow it, and if you have no friends with gba, rent it. do not fool yourself and pay >$5 for it.
