Buy it on PC instead

I am a huge Sims fan and could not wait for the title to be released console version even though I had some doubts. I should have listened to those doubts. Maybe the game would have been totally great for me if I hadn't already been totally spoiled by playing Sims with all the expansion packs for the past few years on PC which is absolutely way too cool for school.
Fun ... But Nothing Incredibly Special

The biggest improvement for the PS2 version of "The Sims" is the 3-Dimensional world you get to navigate. This adds various levels of fun and "coolness" to an otherwise 2-Dimensional game. And "The Sims," of course, is an acquired taste.
Do you like multi-tasking and micro-managing? Than this is for you. But if you're into exploding building and weeping mothers, well, get the pointlessly gory and nearly-unplayable "Manhunt" instead.
"The Sims" offers hours of entertainment. The first day I got this game, I played it for several hours, almost building "bonds" with my main character. I wanted to see him succeed, do better in life, get the girl, get the nice stereo, etc. I put it down and tried to do something productive, like read a book....
.... then a few minutes later, I was thinking about what he'd do next. Should I work out for a couple of hours to get that job promotion? Or maybe he should throw a party to increase his social happiness level? These are questions I should've been asking myself, applying to my personal life, but found much more enjoyable to click buttons about.
So "The Sims" is addictive and fun. However, because this is a PS2 game and not for the PC, there are no upgrades. But I never bought any of the PC upgrades anyway, so that doesn't really matter to me. And now that the PS2 is fully embracing on-line gameplay, perhaps these additions will come in the future.
For the meantime, this is a fun and flawed game, very singular in its target audience, and enjoyable to those who have a weird God complex.
Better than the PC game

After many hours of playing the PC version of the Sims, it started getting slower and slower, especially as I added more expansion packs. I don't know about everyone else, but I was getting really frustrated having to wait so long every time my sim did something. It also got fairly boring after there was no more challenge. (By now, everyone knows all the cheats)In the PS2 version, not only is it much faster, but with the Get A Life feature, you have specific goals to complete, and it's a lot more fun with the challenges. (plus, I don't know the cheats!) In conclusion: if you liked the PC game, you'll love this. The only frustrating thing is that it is pretty much the original sims. no downtown, vacation island, pets, superstar things, etc. that's the only problem tho. and you can't zoom very much. XD!
