Nearly perfect! 9.5/10

5.0 / 5.0

I've played a couple of the previous versions of WipeOut and have always been impressed by this series, but the latest version for PSP is exceptional!

The handling of the car is terrific; you can use the D-pad or analog stick for subtle taps, and the shoulder triggers work airbrakes for harder, tighter steering.

The graphics look beautiful, almost jewel-like, and the selection of music works well with this face-paced game.

You know a racing game is great when you find yourself leaning your body left and right as you swoop through the curves.

The only caveat I've found is that apparently there are online downloads (extra courses, cars, etc.) available at the developer's web-site, but when I try on numerous occasions to download it times out. I suspect it's because the downloads are only available to certain countries, and my country is not one.

All in all, I rate WipeOut Pure a 9.5 out of 10. Fantastic!

Great game, at first

4.0 / 5.0

This game is quite short, once you've beaten all the tracks. This could make a great game for multiplayer though, loads quite fast so its great for on the go, but your fun factor will only last like 10mins before it starts to get repetative. Graphically, this game looks amazing even on the PSP. It flows very well, never slowed down even once on me.

Nice Graphics but...

3.0 / 5.0

As the Sony PSP was launched a few games were released and Wipeout Pure was one of them the game is good but not spectacular. It is somehow a good games as the graphics and details were and still look great. To be honnest the game is not worth over 20$,its good but not a consitant game in any way.Now its around 20$ and considered a greatest hit along with some games like Twisted Metal:Head On,ATV Offroad Furry:Blazin`Trails and more.

I just saw the game for 6.50$ and decided to give it a try not bad really but nothing was superb execpt the amazing graphics who are lets face it what saves this game. You are in 2197 you are racing in the fx300 racing league. There are two leagues an easy league and a harder one but they both have same races. Its good the story mode is nice but once you beat it you get a harder mode like advanced and so on they just increase the difficulty of the game. All of the tracks look really nice.

The `Race Crafts` as they call it are your vehicle they are some futuristic cars and they can fly about a meter over the ground but cannot go higher. You have 8 models of those flying machines and when you can get shields and some things that are pretty much bombs to defend yourself and attack ennemies. After hitting walls and being bombed by ennemies your health goes down and when you reach 0 youre disqualified from the race, but you can blow up your ennemy too and thats cool.

Ovrral:Even with the nice graphics and all you will eventually get tired of this game because its repetitive but its worth a try and it should be interresting to play online against others. There a total of 12 tracks plus you get 4 classic tracks of Wipeout.3 stars at most, good but so repetitive a 1 hour game too eh?

GRAPHICS:10/10 -The graphics are really impressive and even more since it was lauched at the same time as the PSP.

STORY MODE:4.5/10 -This is were the game goes bad because you have two different modes with the same tracks, and once you beat them you get harder modes that are still the same and easy.

RE-PLAYABILITY:5/10-AWFULL!because you play the same tracks all the time, just harder youre tired of everything about the game, time trials, single races,tournaments.....

Graphics Fantastic! Air Flight At It's Best.

3.0 / 5.0

Graphics are fantastic, no doubt, but the actual game itself can be very dull if your not someone who enjoys competition (mainly beating your last score). I find there is just not enough courses within the game to keep it interesting, you just seem to be repeating the same course over again. If your looking for great graphics in all ways, enjoy the challenge of competing with yourself, and like air flight, this game will be very appealing to you, as the price is fairly reasonable. If you prefer more of an adventure, a less strategic game, and require a change of scenery, unfortunately, this game will be somewhat of a disapointment.

Awesome !

5.0 / 5.0

Presentation 9.0
Wonderful menus, beautiful box art, and unlockable image galleries help shape a beautiful package. If only the game auto-loaded player profiles and had a better online lobby, it would be perfect.

Graphics 9.5
From it's wonderful course design and trackside detail, to its stylish ships and weapon effects, this game is beautiful. Minor framerate issues arise occasionally keeping it from perfection.

Sound 9.5
You won't find better licensed electronic soundtrack out there, and effects are crisp, bassy, and wonderful. The PSP brings a new high to handheld gaming.

Gameplay 9.0
Pure is one of the finest playing games in the series. There are plenty of modes to choose from. Tournament play could be more forgiving, and the difficulty can be high, but it's fulfilling.

Lasting Appeal 9.0
Wi-Fi multiplayer is wonderful, aside from lobbying issues and there's plenty of single-player content to enjoy. Downloadable content is promising, indeed.
