Description
With its Poe-like atmosphere, dense fog, pitch-black hallways, and a cryptic letter from a dead wife, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams promises to surpass the paranoia created by its predecessor, Silent Hill. The sequel opens with James Sunderland, the series' average joe protagonist, reading a mysterious message that says, "Silent Hill, our sanctuary of memories. I'll be waiting for you there." More puzzling is that the note is signed by Mary, his deceased wife.
James sets out for Silent Hill hopeful that he'll find a trace of Mary. After an aborted attempt by car, James plunges into the dank fog and embarks on his quest by foot. Enter Angela, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to Mary, and who also beckons him with another curious message. It seems James can't go back; strange things are happening in Silent Hill.
Silent Hill 2 offers 10 new formidable foes, plenty of puzzles, and bone-chilling gameplay. The sequel's new story and characters promise to thrill and terrify. The visual and sound effects are amazingly detailed and macabre, and, if you're playing on a system with surround sound, you may find yourself keeping the lights on.

Silent Hill 2 - your worst nightmare is here.

Silent Hill 2:Restless Dreams has a very dark plot that you wont forget eney time soon. This game is a nice change from the original, better graphics, nice CG's, and a more twisted plot(what more could you want from Konami). I first saw it at EB some time ago and right away i picked it up and wanted to play it, so i gave them the money and took it home with me. Right when i got home i turned on my X-Box and put the game in, it was kind of strange at first because there was no opening movie so i said to myself alright...and started the game. It was awsome, right from the start i had that nice little chill run down my spine, and i knew right then and there that i was in love with a little town known as Silent Hill. Some people will not like it but i recomend you at least rent it, and if you do like it go buy it right away.
XBOX Silent Hill 2 - Scary, or just alot of hype?

Alright. I bought this game because I am a big horror movie fan. I read all of the previous reviews and everyone (save for a couple) seemed to think this game was SCARY. Now, I've seen lots of scary movies. I think "The Exorcist" is still one of the best movies out there in the genre, but where that movie lacked in pure scariness, it made up for in eeriness (is that a word?).
Silent Hill 2 is alot like that. It really isn't _that_ scary. But it sure is eerie.
I played this game on NORMAL/NORMAL settings, every light in the house off, the surround sound on, the brightness on the 2nd to the lowest setting, and on a Sony 32" Wega.
I will list my "cons" about this game first:
1) You can barely tell what the "zombies" look like and the gore isn't all that detailed.
2) The controls SUCK!!! I read a review (posted here) where someone compared it to the 1st Tomb Raider for the PlayStation. Truer words were never spoken.
3) The movements aren't as fluid as one would expect from the XBOX, but I can look beyond that.
Okay, now the good news. What I did like about the game (which, by the way, outweighed the cons):
1) The soundtrack. It gets tense where it should, and even where you think something is going to happen but doesn't. Just like a horror movie.
2) The graphics. The graphics remind me of the movie "Final Fantasy". The gameplay almost looks just like the cutscenes. Very rare (even for XBOX games).
3) The map. Its HUGE! I like games with large playble areas.
4) Although I said that this game wasn't that scary, it does have a tendency to put you on edge from time to time.
5) It has a relatively decent plot/storyline.
6) Multiple endings. Even though I haven't won this game yet (I've had it for 3 days now), I read that it has at least 5 different endings, maybe even more. You gotta love that...
I would have rated this game higher, but my irritation at the controls put it at a 3. With better controls (say, of the Halo sort), and if the fog wasn't overly annoying, this game could have easily been one of XBOX's flagship games.
Makes Resident Evil look like Mario Sunshine...

This is an excellent survival-horror game for Xbox. At first I really wanted a Resident Evil game to come to Xbox, but after playing SH2, they can keep it. The atmosphere is just so foreboding and doomful, while the graphics are terrifyingly realistic. The sound is great to. The first time I played this, I kept the lights on all night. SH2 make not have as much action and killing as RE,but there's other parts that more than make up for that.Overall, I strongly recommend buying this game!
SCARY-ASS GAME...Not for the yungins

I first heard about Silent Hill on the school bus when a kid said "dude, have you played Silent Hill 2? It's scary!". Confusing it with another game, I told him it's not. Fast forward to 2 years later when my freind brought it over to my house. He said "Pop it in and s*** your pants". I started to play and thought I wasn't freaked out until I walked up to an abandoned car and a zombie-like monster crawls out from below. Just my first taste at what is the horrifying... horror of SILENT HILL 2. This game has it all! Scary plot, freaky levels, difficult puzzles, amazing graphics, great charater development, and best of all, awsome weapons with which I shoot ZOMBIES!!! It may sound like a RESIDENT EVIL rip off, but compared to this, RESIDENT EVIL is like SESAME STREET. Let's all buy SILENT HILL 2 and not play it in the dark!
Want to scare the bejeezus outta yerself?

Okay, as cheesy as the the title for this review may sound, it's about as plain as I can put it. Those of you who are Resident Evil addicts, or other such video games with contrived and faulty storylines/plots, well...this review isn't for you.
For those of you interested in renting or purchasing the game, I highly recommend it, especially if you're the type of individual who isn't spooked easily: If the music itself doesn't give you the "willies" or grate on your subconcious to the point of thinking you're actually in the game, wading through a fog-laden town full of twisted, bizarrely anatomically incorrect nightmarish creatures, well then...You, my friend are in need of psychiatric help. Either that, or you need to actually visit the town of Silent Hill (wherever it may be) itself for a wakeup call. I'd bring a lead pipe or two, and just maybe some serious firepower, i.e., as much as you can carry, to make it through this little sleepy "town of terror". Outstanding graphics, fantastic music, a great story and enough creepiness to keep you glued to the tube for hours on end. Well worth it, people...Nothing like a good fright to brighten or highten the senses anyway, right?
