A great change from WarCraft and StarCraft

5.0 / 5.0

In Age of Empires: the Age of Kings, you can control one of 13 different civilizations including the English, Mongols, Chinese, Japanese, Byzantines, and many more. Age of Empires 2 is not your typical RTS. Unlike WarCraft and StarCraft, AOE2 requires more thinking on your part rather than creating an army of soldiers and storming the enemy base. That doesn't cut it in AOE2. You actually have to think in order to outsmart the computer (oh my gosh, some of you mindless people actually have to use your so called brains). In regards to AOE2 and the major change I had to go through from playing WarCraft and StarCraft, was the fact that I had to learn how to multitask my characters. In WarCraft and StarCraft the only resources you can gather are either two or three resources. In AOE2 you must gather food, wood, gold, and stone in order to keep your civilization alive. Also the many different upgrades and research items in AOE2 was a big change from WarCraft and StarCraft. In an overall rating, AOE2 outperforms WarCraft and StarCraft by a considerable amount and is 10x more fun and challenging. And your also learning a bit about history as you play (it doesn't get any better than that).
Bottom Line: Age of Empires: the Age of Kings is loads of fun. Get it! You won't be dissappointed.

Wonderful Great Graphics Realy Fun

5.0 / 5.0

Great game on a 1 disk. Create your own civilization. Have a blast create your own amazing town!!!

awesome game!

5.0 / 5.0

If you like the middle ages, medieval warfare, and strategy games where you build stuff, you'll love this game and all the other Age of Empires games. In this one, you can build castles, houses, mills, universities, blacksmiths, fortified walls, and tons of other cool stuff. To win a normal game (any game other than campaign games), you need to build villagers from the town center to get food, stone, gold, and wood so you can build buildings. You can do research to upgrade armor, attack points, ballistics, technology, etc. You can also build a dock and get ships. Then, build a castle. The castle alows you to build your elite units. (ie. If you were the Tuetons, your elite unit is the Elite Tuetonic Knight.) The best people to be are the Britons. Their elite unit is the Elite Longbowman. These guys can shoot far, with good accuracy and hit points. They also have good armor. When you have built as many soldiers as you can, send them in (with a couple trebuches or scorpions or something) Also, you can build your own map and place whatever guys on yours or your enemies side that you want. There's much more stuff you can do, but I don't have enough time to write it all. Next time you have the chance, buy this game. Plus, once you get this game, you can also get Age of Empires II The age of conquerors. Then, you should buy the Age of Mythology. And, once you get that, you can get Age of Mythology: The Titans Expansion. Then, if you have any money left, get all the other Age of Empires games that were ever made. And if you still have money and room on your PC, get Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. I'm not going to write all the other cool games you should get, but i will say this again: BUY AGE OF EMPIRES II THE AGE OF KINGS!!!

fun

4.0 / 5.0

The one player mode in this game is a little more fun that the starcraft, warcraft, red alert one player modes. Internet multiplayer is great. The game is deep enough to be fun and challenging, and easy enough to get good at quickly. Buy it!!

Real-time strategy challenges

5.0 / 5.0

Unlike the Civilization series Age of Empires is a real-time stragegy game, forcing you to think fast. It's for gamers who have brains. :)

Eat Sleep Play (Interview)

Interview with Jaffe and Campbell, founders of Eat Sleep Play. Covers a wide variety of topics. God of War 3, platform exclusivity, future projects, closing studios, among others. Interesting tidbit: Quote: Again, Scott had plenty to say concerning this topic, but it’s stuff they wish to keep under wraps right now. We can tell you a few things he said: first of all, they’re using the Warhawk engine as the basis for the game. This makes sense, of course, as Warhawk was an Incognito title.
