An excellent game

Of all the video game genres out there, it's role-playing games (RPGs) that tend to get cheated the most. There are fewer games in this genre than any other, and often when a company tries its hand at making one, they end up making something that's so hard to learn that it's no fun to play. Though the Game Boy Color had been released in 1998, it wouldn't be until nearly a year later that an RPG would arrive on the system, and even then, it would just be a port of a classic Game Boy title. A Game Boy RPG never released in America called Last Bible was translated into English, given the Game Boy Color treatment, and retitled Revelations: The Demon Slayer. How would this RPG, originally released circa 1991, measure up against the modern video game market? Read on and find out.
THE GOOD:
-Though this is an RPG, it's not too difficult to learn the basic gameplay mechanics. It's not often you get an RPG you can just pick up and play without reading the instructions, but this is a rare exception to the rule. Simplicity is this game's greatest strength.
-Many of the monsters you battle in the game can be turned over to your side. This is NOT a Pokemon clone though, it's a much more traditional RPG. Besides, it predated Pokemon by at least half a decade.
-The music and sound effects are much better than I was expecting them to be.
-When you collect monsters, you can use a magic spell to fuse them together and make them more powerful!
-Every character has a number of weapons he or she can equip to become more powerful.
THE BAD:
-The element of recruiting monsters to join your team just doesn't work out very well. You have to use a system of questions and answers, and this really makes no sense.
-The graphics, even though they got the Game Boy Color treatment, pale in comparison to some of those found in later Game Boy Color titles.
-You don't actually get to see the battles happen (this is a problem with a good deal of RPGs though, not just this one.)
-The English translation seems a bit rushed in places.
-Your monsters can't equip weapons and armor.
-Many of the monsters look exactly the same as others, they just have minor appearance changes - or sometimes none at all.
OVERALL:
If you're looking for an RPG on the Game Boy that's not too tough to learn but will still keep you involved for hours at a time and you're burned out on the Pokemon series, give this game a try. It's one of the Game Boy Color's hidden gems. This is an excellent game - need I say more?
